How to Set Up Wordpress

In this article we will go through the process of setting up Wordpress on a TinyHosts server. Despite the length of this article, it’s very easy, don’t worry no technical background is needed. The article is very detailed that’s why is this long. Setting up Wordpress takes only a couple of minutes.

If you don’t already have an account with us, sign up first for one of our web hosting plans. If you don’t have a domain name, we will register one for you free of charge. If you do have a domain name, we can transfer it to us or you can simply set the domain’s name servers to ours to make sure the domain name points to our server. If you need assistance with this, just contact our support department.

Once your hosting account is up and running, you will receive a confirmation e-mail along with your username and password that is required to login to your control panel. The control panel is accessible at www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. Replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name (ie. www.tinyhosts.com/cpanel). Use the username and password that was provided to you in your account information e-mail.

Once you logged in to your control panel, click on the icon that says Fantastico Deluxe (a blue smiley icon in the Software / Services category). This will bring up a list of softwares that you can install. Click on Wordpress in the Blog section, then click ‘New Installation’.

Fill out the form, which consists only of the following:

  • Install on domain: There will be most likely only one domain (your own) in this list, so you can just leave it alone.
  • Install in directory: If you wish to access your blog at www.yourdomain.com, simply leave is alone. If the address of your blog should be www.yourdomain.com/blog, enter ‘blog’ in this field. If you are unsure, just leave it empty.
  • Administrator username and password: Enter a username and password you want to use to manage your blog. It can be pretty much anything, but make sure you will remember it later.
  • Admin nickname, e-mail: The admin nickname will be shown in the header of your posts. The e-mail address will be used by Wordpress to send you notifications, about comments on your blog’s posts, etc… so make sure it’s a valid e-mail address.
  • Site name, description: It can be anything, just describe what your site is about.

Then click ‘Install Wordpress’, then ‘Finish Installation’. And that’s it, your blog is up and running. You will be presented by a couple of useful information, such as the administration address of your blog (make sure you bookmark it in your browser), your admin username and password, that you chose in the previous step. Click on the admin link shown on this page to login to your Wordpress admin area and start posting or customizing your website.

In the next part of our Wordpress Hosting article series, we will describe how to customize your Wordpress blog to look a lot better than the default layout.
